Cars, Holidays, music & Steam Trains

I remember the various cars David had. Initially he drove the car on jobs provided by the Salisbury Journal - I think it may have been a Mini Van. Then I think he had his own Morris Minor and possibly an Austin 1100 before progressing to a Ford Anglia. I remember vividly the Ford Anglia because David and his mother (my grandmother) took me on a short holiday to Devon in it and he had to take urgent avoiding action putting it onto two wheels - I was only about 8 years old and remember it as if it were yesterday. David was a keen Steam Railway enthusiast and part of the holiday was spent photographing trains at Dawlish where I recall standing along the sea front wall waiting for the train. Later he had a Vauxhall Astra which I bought from him when he traded up to a Citroen AX. My earliest memory of David was at Meadow Road. He had a Dansette portable record player and I remember him playing Telstar by the Tornado’s which was No 1 in the hit parade at the time in 1962. I would have been 4 years old and David was 15. David gave me the record when he moved onto classical music - I still have the record. Funny what things you remember as a marker in some one’s life.
